6 Bollywood Movies That Had the Darkest Endings

Bollywood, known for its vibrant song-and-dance sequences, larger-than-life romances, and feel-good stories, has also produced its fair share of movies that dare to explore the darker side of human existence. These films deliver narratives that defy the conventional expectations of a happy ending and instead leave viewers haunted by the chilling, unsettling conclusions.

Here are five Bollywood movies that had the darkest endings:

Black Friday (2004)

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, "Black Friday" is a harrowing depiction of the 1993 Bombay bombings and the subsequent investigation. The film ends on a bleak note, emphasizing the cyclical nature of violence and the relentless pursuit of justice.

Rang De Basanti (2006)

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, this film takes a critical look at political corruption and youth activism in India. The dark ending of "Rang De Basanti" highlights the sacrifices made by its characters in their fight for justice.

Dev.D (2009)

Anurag Kashyap's modern adaptation of Devdas, "Dev.D," is a twisted take on the classic love story. The film portrays the self-destructive journey of its protagonist, Dev, into the abyss of addiction and despair. The dark ending showcases the consequences of Dev's actions, offering no redemption for the characters.

Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ramleela (2013)

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's adaptation of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" is a tale of feuding families and forbidden love. The film's dark ending showcases the tragic consequences of love and hate intertwined.

Haider (2014)

Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" is set against the backdrop of the Kashmir conflict. "Haider" is a gripping tale of revenge, betrayal, and political intrigue. The film's climax is both tragic and unsettling, underlining the emotional toll of the conflict on its characters.

Udta Punjab (2016)

This gritty drama directed by Abhishek Chaubey delves into the rampant drug abuse problem in the state of Punjab. The movie's dark ending serves as a stark reminder of the challenges and hopelessness faced by individuals trapped in the cycle of addiction and crime.
