When we talk about iconic Bollywood films of the 90s, Border instantly comes to mind. The movie, set during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, was a blockbuster and introduced audiences to a host of stars like Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty and Akshaye Khanna. Yet, even among such talent, one brief appearance left a lasting mark: Sharbani Mukherjee, who played Sunil Shetty’s wife.

Though her screen time was short, her simplicity and elegance made the song “Aye Jaate Hue Lamho” unforgettable. Sharbani debuted with Border, and her performance won hearts instantly. Interestingly, she is the cousin of Bollywood favourites Kajol and Rani Mukerji, and fans occasionally see her at family gatherings with them.
Despite the attention, Sharbani couldn’t find long-term success in Bollywood due to limited roles. She shifted her focus to Malayalam cinema, where she enjoyed significant success, and appeared in several advertisements. One of her notable achievements was starring in the music video “Ghar Aaja Sonia” by Pakistani singer Shazia Manzoor, playing a deaf and mute girl—a performance that was highly appreciated.
