Aug 14th: 50 Years of Thalaivar: The Unstoppable Force of Indian Cinema

On 15 August 1975, a young actor named Rajinikanth made his debut in K. Balachander’s film *Apoorva Raagangal*. In a powerful first scene, he walked through a gate to meet his estranged wife. That small moment marked the birth of a superstar.

Born as Sivaji Rao Gaikwad, Rajinikanth quickly became known for his unique style, powerful screen presence, and unforgettable dialogues. During the 1980s, he rose to fame with big hits in Tamil and Hindi, and even a Hollywood venture.





His iconic films like Thalapathi, Annaamalai, Baba, and Chandramukhi made him a hero worshipped by millions. But Rajinikanth didn’t just play the perfect hero; he also explored darker, complex roles.

Now, 50 years later, Rajinikanth returns with *Coolie*, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film releases today, 14 August 2025, just a day before his debut anniversary.
