Best movie remakes that will make you forget the original one

Although Bollywood has a long tradition of borrowing from Hollywood and regional cinema, it has often turned to its own classics for inspiration. Thus, we have compiled a list of films that were remakes of some classic old Bollywood movies.

1. Don - The Chase Begins Again (2006)

The Shah Rukh Khan film was a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s 1978 classic, Don, directed by Chandra Barot. Shahrukh did such a stellar job with his acting, people have forgotten the old one for good.

2. Umrao Jaan (2006)
The J.P. Dutta-directed film, starring Aishwarya Rai, was a remake of the 1981 Rekha movie helmed by Muzaffar Ali. Aishwarya Rai’s beauty won the hearts of millions as she was just perfect for the role.

3. Agneepath (2012)
With the title taken from one of Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s poems, and son Amitabh Bachchan playing the role of the protagonist – this 1990 movie is an epic piece of Bollywood. Two decades later, you have Hrithik Roshan playing Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, as he battles it out against the evil Kancha Cheena.

4. Bol Bachchan (2012)
Golmaal is one of the finest comedy films of Bollywood. Renamed ‘Bol Bachchan’ and starring Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay Devgan, it continued the legacy of being a hit. ‘The Case of the Mustache’ still holds so much popularity for its story as well as for its soundtrack.
