Coming from an army background and studying B.Com (Hons) in Delhi, acting wasn’t an obvious career path. In fact, it felt almost forbidden. But encouraged to be fearless while growing up, Nimrat decided to take a leap of faith and moved to Mumbai in 2004, giving herself just six months to see if she could survive in the industry.

The early days were filled with struggle. She personally visited production houses, travelled by train and bus to auditions, and maintained a diary of her attempts — eventually giving 85 auditions before landing her first ad. Rejections were frequent, often based on how she “looked,” but she chose to learn from them rather than be discouraged.
Her breakthrough came with The Lunchbox opposite Irrfan Khan. The film’s international success transformed her career, leading to global projects like Homeland and mainstream hits such as Airlift.
