Bollywood movies that will teach you valuable lessons

For most people Bollywood is synonymous with dance, romance, action, drama and good music. They are right. But Bollywood is beyond fairytale romance and ‘knight in shining armour’ heroes. There are times when Bollywood leaves us with inspirational and valuable lessons. It teaches us life lessons through those choreographed dances, whacky villains and music that moves you. Here are some of those Bollywood movies that will teach you valuable lessons.

  1. 3 Idiots: The unbreakable bond between Raju, Farhan, and Racho leaves us doubling over with laughter. But that’s not all it is about. It teaches us those life lessons that we really need to get through life. It teaches us the value of ‘capability’. 3 Idiots is like comfort food, you can never get enough of it.

  1. Queen: This movie is true to its name. We all struggle with getting over things. Holding on to memories that keep hurting us. Well Queen is all about it. It teaches you the importance of ‘letting go’. Alongside the fun and adventurous journey and amazing dance moves, it surely provides you with a good piece of advice.

  1. Gully Boy: Besides being packed with rap, Gully boy comes with a life lesson. It narrates the life story of a famous rapper and how he achieved it all. But it also teaches us that no one else should ever hold the power to tell you what you are capable of.

  1. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara: Another movie with a group of friends taking some time off their monotonous life. It is a movie that will hardly get ‘old and boring’. It teaches us (in the words of Laila) to ‘seize the day my friend, pehle iss din ko poori tarah jiyo’. This is one of those lessons many of us need to learn in our lives.

  1. M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story: There is almost no one who hasn’t watched their favourite cricketer’s biopic. It has heartbreak, romance, inspiration and phenomenal acting. It is about fighting your way through circumstances and achieving what you dream of. It teaches us to dream big and to work equally hard to make them come true.

  1. Dear Zindagi: We have all seen Jug’s unconventional ways, and how he helped Kaira. This coming-of-age movie teaches us one of the most important lessons in our life, i.e. ‘ask for help’. Most people think they’ll seem cowardly doing so, but it’s the other way round.

  1. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: A trek, a group of friends and a girl brave enough to go out with people she barely knows. We have all danced our hearts out to its songs. But alongside romance and lessons on friendship, it also teaches us to live in the moment.

  1. Dil Dhadakne Do! For some people believe their family to be their weakness, but it actually is their biggest strength. Throughout the ups and downs of the storyline, we all see how the Mehra’s come closer and help each other. Dil Dhadakne Do has it all, romance, drama, music and a valuable lesson.

  1. English Vinglish: Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish, portrays a typical housewife and how she’s also mocked due to her lack of knowledge on English. She then takes the chance and attempts to learn the language, thus rediscovering herself. It teaches that there is nothing unachievable if we try our best.

It’s not really hard to find valuable lessons if we look close enough. Bollywood teaches us something with every movie it produces. It’s up to us to capture those lessons along with entertainment.
