Best Songs of AR Rahman

Music is the essence of life hence why our heart beats to the beat of music we listen to. There are a number of music composers in the Indian Film Industry but there is no one like A.R. Rahman. From starting his studio in his backyard in the 1980s to winning the Academy Award for best soundtrack for Slumdog millionaire in 2008, he composed a number of masterpieces. In case, you are looking to add some of those songs to your playlist, here are the best songs of AR Rahman:


  1. Tere Bina (Guru, 2007): Mani Ratnam’s Guru was the best in all aspects. The soundtrack was a cherry on top. From Qawwali influenced Tere Bina to Mayya Mayya with a middle eastern twist, the soundtrack is rich in a variety of styles. 




  1. Kaise Mujhe (Ghajini, 2008): Everyone felt the ache of Sanjay Singhania (Aamir Khan) when he lost his fiance Kalpana Shetty (Asin). The soundtrack composed by AR Rahman did justice to the plot and the tragic love story. The lyrics and music of ‘Kaise Mujhe’ is sure to leave you awestruck.




  1. Maa Tujhe Salaam: No matter if you have heard this song a thousand times during your school’s annual day celebration, it’ll still leave you filled with patriotism. The music is so powerful that you will get goosebumps every time. 




  1. Khwaja Mere Khwaja (Jodha Akbar, 2008): Feeling connected to God is an amazing feeling, which you will get to experience while listening to ‘Khwaja Mere Khwaja’. AR Rahman is highly spiritual and you can feel it through its music. Besides this, Jodha Akbar’s Jashn-e-Bahara, is also a masterpiece.




  1. Kun Faya Kun (Rockstar, 2011): Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar is one of those gems that were a masterpiece in every way. It gave us so many amazing songs from ‘Phir se Udd Chala’ to ‘Kun Faya Kun’. It’s likely not possible to listen to ‘Kun Faya Kun’ and not sing along. It is yet another beautiful composition by AR Rahman.




  1. Luka Chuppi (Rang De Basanti, 2006): The soundtrack of Rang De Basanti is full of power packed and patriotic songs. ‘Luka Chuppi’ stands out because of its heartfelt lyrics. The voice of Lata Mangeshkar and composition by AR Rahman made this song soulful. This soundtrack has it all, from upbeat ‘Rang De Basanti’ & ‘Roobaroo’ to soulful ‘Khoon Chala’ & ‘Tu Bin Bataye’.




  1. Chaiyya Chaiyya (Dil Se, 1998): We have all danced our hearts out to this song. The sequenced train dance is how most of us remember this song. The soulfulness of this song won AR Rahman another Filmfare Award for Best Music Director. Besides Chaiyya Chaiyya, Dil se re and Jiya Jale are also gems composed by AR Rahman.




  1. Jai Ho (Slumdog Millionaire, 2008): This list is incomplete without this song. Jai Ho is one of the most phenomenal creations of AR Rahman. This song won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written. This song also inspired the title of Rahman’s biographical documentary.




This list can go on and on as there is not one song composed by AR Rahman that isn’t perfect. With his powerful voice, AR Rahman can make your heart skip a beat or melt you into a puddle of tears, afterall he is the music maestro of India
