Mohabbatein Cast- Then and Now

In 2000, Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein released with a grand ensemble cast that included Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and fresh faces such as Uday Chopra, Jimmy Sheirgill, Jugal Hansraj, Shamita Shetty, Preeti Jhangiani and Kim Sharma. This musical saga based on the premise of college love was an instant blockbuster amongst the audiences. 

Almost 20 years later, here’s what the cast is up to.

Amitabh Bachchan 

Marking his second innings as an actor, Amitabh Bachchan played the cold and disciplinary Narayan Shankar who swore by ‘Parampara, Pratishtha and Anushasan’ in Aditya Chopra directed Mohabbatein. 

He last seen in the multi lingual period drama, Syera Narsimha Reddy. Big B has an interesting line up of films for 2020 with Chehre, Jhund, Gulabo Sitabo and Brahmastra. The Shahenshah of Bollywood was recently conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Hindi Cinema.

Shah Rukh Khan

King Khan who played the charming and resilient, Raj Aaryan, the music teacher who played the violin and taught lessons of love in Mohabbatein, last played the role of Baua Singh in the 2018 release Zero. While fans and fraternity are awaiting the announcement of his next project, SRK is spreading his charm through talk shows across the world. 

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan 

The timeless Bollywood beauty who played the pivotal role of Megha in the movie, has given the Hindi voice over for the upcoming Disney release Maleficent: Mistress of Evil as Maleficent. Her next film is a project with Mani Ratnam in which she will be playing a double role.

Uday Chopra

Uday Chopra made his Bollywood debute as an actor in Mohabbatein playing the role of Vikram Kapoor.  He is now based in LA and is the owner-manager of the YRF subsidiary, YRF Entertainment which is dedicated to international projects. He has produced two Hollywood films- Grace of Monaco with Nicole Kidman and The Longest Week. 

Shamita Shetty

Shamita Shetty debuted as the bold and beautiful Ishita in Mohabbatein. She also won the IIFA Best Newcomer (Female) for her sizzling performance. 

In the recent past, Shamita participated in top reality shows such as Bigg Boss 3, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 8 and most recently, Khatron Ke Khiladi 9 in which she was a finalist. She has also acted in web series such as Yo Ke Hua Bro and The Tenant. 

Jimmy Sheirgill

Jimmy Sheirgill played the sweet boy, Karan Choudhary in Mohabbatein. 

He has been actively working in the Hindi and Punjabi film industry as an actor and producer. His was seen in a supporting role in Judgementall Hai Kya and as Mehtab Singh in the Punjabi film Daana Paani and will star in the upcoming gangster drama Ek Aur Rangbaaz on ZEE5. 

Preeti Jhangiani

Preeti Jhangiani also debuted in Mohabbatein, playing the role of young widow, Kiran. After trying her hand at South films, Punjabi films and more Hindi films, Preeti married Parvin Dabbas and took a sabbatical. 

After the birth of their two kids, Preeti made a comeback with a Rajasthani film, Taawdo The Sunlight. Her next, The Pushkar Lodge is set to release in December 2019.

Jugal Hansraj

After playing the good boy Sameer Sharma in Mohabbatein, Jugal Hansraj was seen in various Bollywood films and TV shows produced by YRF. Jugal also turned director for the animated film Roadside Romeo which won the National Film Award for Best Animated Film. In 2010 he directed Pyaar Impossible with Priyanka Chopra and Uday Chopra. 

In 2017, Jugal Hansraj turned author with his book Cross Connections

Kim Sharma 

Kim Sharma played the bubbly Sanjana in Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein. After a brief stint in Bollywood, Kim is happily married and runs her own bridal grooming agency.
