12 dialogues that will make your hearts skip a beat

What is that one thing that always stays with you even after you leave the theatre after watching your favourite movie? Faint memories of song lyrics and gripping scenes, yes! But what stays longer in the head are the stellar words of the characters delivered with emotion and conviction. Well, we won't disagree!

Bollywood survives on high drama quotient and hair raising dialogues that leave an impressionable mark on the audience’s minds. We bring to you 12 iconic Bollywood movie dialogues that have made our love for Bollywood all the more intense!

  1. “Jaa Simran jaa! Jee le apni zindagi”

The first on the list is the iconic love story of Raj and Simran who go to striking lengths to win the approval of Simran’s parents for allowing them to get married. One of the most popular dialogues on-screen with an equally iconic screenplay of a disheveled Simran running towards her lover aboard a train, not to mention that lover is none other than our beloved SRK. There have been a plethora of memes and cultural trivia based on this one movie dialogue.

  1. “Tum nahi samjhogi Anjali, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.”

This one dialogue is enough to end any conversation in this world. Leaving the listener with a variety of thoughts that linger on. This dialogue was repeated many times in this cute movie from the 90’s which we all just simply adore re-watching even today.

  1. “Basanti! In kutto ke samne mat nachna.”

While we stroll down memory lane, how can we miss mentioning Sholay? The cult classic that ran over theatres for as long as one can remember. This dialogue is still fresh in our hearts and minds.

  1. “Mogambo khush hua!”

Spoken by the renowned and talented Bollywood artist Late Amrish Puri. The thunder of his voice in this character will enchant our minds forever.

  1. “Kaun hai ye? Jisne dobara mudke mujhe nahi dekha?”

The epic family saga of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham would not have existed without Kareen Kapoor’s sassy character Poo. With her dressing game and fashion choices on point, she was more worshipped than the movie itself!

  1. “Aal Izz Well”

This memorable and reassuring dialogue of an often-repeated phrase from the movie 3 Idiots is as sweet as it is meaningful. This heart-touching movie based on a story of three college friends was a super hit among the masses.

  1. “Itni shiddat se maine tumhe paane ki koshish ki hai … ki har zarre ne mujhe tumse milane ki saazish ki hai”

This dialogue from the classic romantic drama Om Shanti Om and Deepika Padukone’s debut movie is etched in our heart forever. The SRK-Deepika chemistry with nuances of slow motion hand waving are just so romantic. Not to mention the ample number of times this tends to become one of the most famed pick up lines for people across the globe.

  1. "Gold toh gold hota hai. Chhora lave ya chhori."

If there is one movie on intersection of Sports and Patriotism that outdoes every other, it has to be Dangal. Amir Khan very poignantly brings out the character, in his role as a doting but strict father, who leaves no stone unturned to help bring the gold medal to India. With a very progressive mindset such as his in the movie, there's so much to learn!

  1. “Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi namumkin hai.”

If we could count the number of times we have rewatched this scene, we would. When this movie was remade with SRK armed in his chivalrous macho style, playing this iconic character, we would just be jaw-dropping every time any one would even mention the word DON.

  1. Mai apni favourite hoon!”

Only Kareena Kapoor as Geet can pull off this dialogue with so much fun and conviction that every person watching would completely buy what she's saying. This one is from the popular and loved story of Geet and Aditya with an enjoyable background score.

  1. “Thappad Se Darr Nahi Lagta Sahab Pyar Se Lagta Hai”

Enacted by the beautiful and classy Sonkashi Sinha, in the super hit Dabangg released in 2010. This dialogue from the superhit Salman Khan starrer, became an overnight popular phrase in every Indian household.

  1. “Babu Moshai Zindagi badi honi chahiye lambi nahi”

Ending the list with a dialogue from the classic movie Anand, released in 1971, that spans all age groups and is so profound that it is almost like a life lesson itself. So often repeated many times in other bollywood movies as well. Life should indeed be all encompassing and not just long enough for you to live with having not achieved anything spectacular.

Bollywood movies are stories that relate well with people across the world because of their iconic screenplays and well written dialogues. While OTT platforms have significantly changed the way we watch new releases, the only thing constant is that indelible mark that those dialogues leave on our mind, indeed!
