Each year, the IIFA World Premiere film is selected by the IIFA Advisory Board and the IIFA Management after considerable evaluation to ensure that the profile fits the IIFA objectives and meets global standards.
The first ever IIFA World Premiere was in 2001. The film - 'Lagaan', which went on to win a nomination at the Oscars for the Best Foreign Language Film. An exclusive session with the media at a special Press Meet post show discussed the increasing awareness about Indian Cinema on a global platform.
In 2002, IIFA hosted the World Premiere of 'Aankhen' at the Genting International Showroom. Yet another star-studded evening unfolded. Aankhen is being remade as a Hollywood blockbuster.
2003 saw the World Premiere of 'Armaan'. The Premiere buzzed with exhilaration and excitement.
In 2004, Singapore experienced the glittering World Premiere of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Yuva’, in Hindi and ‘Aayitha Ezhuthu’ in Tamil. Giving the world a taste of true Indian Cinema – regional, and at the same time, global. Mani Ratnam and the star cast walked the Red Carpet at the Lido Cineplex, as thousands of fans applauded.
In 2005 the Amsterdam audiences were left amazed with the World Premiere of Pradeep Sarkar’s
'Parineeta', which went on to win several National Awards.
With the benchmark set by the success of these blockbusters, the IIFA World Premiere strives to outdo expectations... without fail every year.
