Film music goes beyond Indian shores reaching millions of film fans everyday. This year IIFA focuses on music in Indian films through the IIFA Music Workshop – ‘Music: Bringing Indian Cinema Alive’ exploring the elements that go into the creation of a song from the composition and lyrics to the arrangement and singing.
The workshop will feature a host of eminent personalities including lyricists Javed Akhtar and Prasoon Joshi, music composers Vishal-Shekhar and Shantanu Moitra, and film directors Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Zoya Akhtar. The panelists will share anecdotes, trivia and personal experiences from their iconic films in an interactive session with the audience. Industry veteran, Atul Churamani will be moderating this session with the film directors and musicians.
The unique aspect of this workshop will be the element of spontaneity and the birth of brand new songs created before a LIVE audience.The film directors will share a situation with the lyricists, who will then share their writing with the composers. These creations will then be performed LIVE in front of the audience. The panelists will also engage in a 'Q and A' session with the audience, thereby giving the audience an opportunity to personally interact with the illustrious panelists.
A host of Indian singers are also expected to attend the event, including Hariharan, Lesle Lewis, Usha Uthup, Shreya Ghoshal, Mohit Chauhan, and Harshdeep Kaur. Eminent Indian directors and producers will also be in attendance.

One of Indian film industry's most acclaimed and respected poets, lyricists and scriptwriters, Javed Akhtar began his journey as a part of the duo Salim-Javed who wrote some exceptional scripts like Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, Mr. India, to name a few. Later, independently as a lyricist he has achieved both popularity and critical acclaim and has been honored with the prestigious National Award for films like Border, Refugee & Lagaan. He has also been awarded the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan by the Government of India. Some of the major award winning movies he has contributed to as a lyricist include 1942: A Love Story, Kal Ho Na Ho, Veer-Zaara, Jodhaa-Akhbar and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

Globally recognised as the 'Ad-guru of India' and the lyricist of the song 'Maa' from the film Taare Zameen Par, Prasoon Joshi is a multi-faceted creative professional. Also, the Chairman of McCann Worldwide and an advertising copywriter, he has been accredited with the Cannes Lion Award for the "Thanda matlab.. Coca-Cola" campaign. He has immensly contributed to Indian Cinema as a lyricist and screenwriter for blockbusters like Fanaa, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, Black, Delhi 6 and Aarakshan. He is also a proud recipient of more than 200 National and International awards.

Widely recognized as a prolific and thinking writer and director, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra started his career as an advertisement film maker. He has directed several award winning ad films for popular brands like Coke, Pepsi, Toyota, American Express and BPL. His film Rang De Basanti, won him the National Award and a nomination at the Oscars and BAFTA. Aks and Delhi 6 are some of the other critically acclaimed films, directed by him. His next directorial project Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is one of the most awaited films of the year.

Once an ad man whose 'Bole mere lips..I love Uncle Chips' jingle became a rage, Shantanu Moitra is now an established music composer in the Indian film industry. His most notable compositions for mainstream cinema are for the immensely popular films Parineeta, Lage Raho Munnabhai, 3 Idiots and Rajneeti. He has also contributed to the Indipop genre with hits like Ab Ke Saawan and Mann Ke Manjeere. He is contributing to Coke Studio at MTV Season 2 as the curator of an entire episode and is also extremely active in the folk music space.

The famous music director duo who are most known for a contemporary appeal in their music, Vishal and Shekhar have given the Indian music industry some of the most popular numbers from films like Om Shanti Om, Tashan, Dostana and Anjaana Anjaani. They rose to prominence when they composed the score for the film Jhankaar Beats which got immense popularity amongst the youth and won them the RD Burman Award for New Music Talent. Their recent compositions like 'Chammak Challo' from Ra.One, and 'Sheila Ki Jawani' from Tees Maar Khan were one of the biggest hits of 2011. Their music in the recent film 'Kahaani' has received great critical acclaim for its unique compositions.

Zoya gave her directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film Luck By Chance. Having tried her hand in different spheres of the industry, from working as an assistant director for Bombay Boys, Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya to growing as an executive producer and eventually turning into a director, she is well versed with the craft of film making. Her recent directorial Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobaara has been one of the biggest grossers of 2011 and has won her several awards and accolades.
