its momentous five-year journey, IIFA has set numerous milestones.
Milestones, which inspire; milestones, which push the limits further.
Here's a peek into some of those milestones:
Introduction of Hindi film distribution and exhibition in South
Africa through Ster Kinekor, the largest distributor and exhibitor
in South Africa with 360 screens and largest circuit of 1.6 million
viewers for Hindi cinema.
Introduction of Hindi film Distribution
and Exhibition with Nu Metro Cinema in Johannesburg in 2003. Nu
Metro has 250 screens in the region.
World Premiere of ‘Lagaan', which
went on to create history by winning a nomination at the Oscars
for the Best Foreign Language Film.
In its 5 th year IIFA through
its networking with STB (Singapore Tourism Board) and MDA (Media
Development Authority) obtained a sanction of 100 Million $
to be spent by the Singapore Government on co-productions of Indian
Films in the next 7 years.
IIFA set up the ‘Runway to Fame' at
Changi Airport , Singapore . Film costumes of stars like Amitabh
Bachchan, Hritik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Kajol, Madhuri
Dixit, |
KareenaKapoor, memorabilia from the films, personally autographed pictures of the film stars, autographed
books etc. were auctioned at the airport to the public. Autograph
and Photographs with the
stars were also taken.
Major films announced at various IIFA Weekends include Kaante starring
Amitabh Bachchan, Sunil Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Lucky Ali, Malaika
Arora; Koi Mil Gaya starring Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Rekha;
Watan starring Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol.
IIFA supports the promotion and distribution
of Indian films through tie-ups with distribution chains in emerging
markets like Australia and South Africa . |
