Programme enables over 300 IIFA fans to participate and contribute to the IIFA Weekend and Awards 2012 in Singapore from 7 - 9 June 2012
Singapore, 2 May 2012 - As Singapore gears up to host the 13th edition of the annual International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards 2012 from 7 - 9 June 2012, IIFA calls for fans of Indian Cinema to be a part of its 'Friends of IIFA' volunteer programme. Launched in 2007 at IIFA Yorkshire, the volunteer programme is part of the IIFA legacy for the host country, providing opportunities for participants from all walks of life to get involved, experience and contribute to the biggest international celebration of Indian Cinema first hand.
Over the last 12 years, IIFA has left an indelible footprint in Europe, the Middle East, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Canada and has emerged as the most prestigious platform recognising excellence in the Indian film industry. Year on year, the biggest names of Indian cinema congregate at the IIFA Weekend and Awards to celebrate the best contributions made in the previous years. The Weekend also provides the Indian film fraternity an opportunity to reach global audiences in international territories, and establish symbiotic relationships between India and the host country in areas such as tourism, culture and trade. The IIFA Weekend is the largest South Asian celebrations event and the IIFA Awards is among the most-watched global events, annually.
The 'Friends of IIFA' initiative brings volunteers in direct contact with a conglomeration of Indian and international film industry representatives, global media houses, respected business leaders as well as various government dignitaries. As such, over the last few years, some great opportunities have been given to exceptional members of the 'Friends of IIFA' programme with the offer of permanent employment.
At IIFA Weekend and Awards 2011 in Toronto, Canada, Wizcraft International Entertainment received over 1,500 applications from across the province of Ontario, while 400 volunteers were selected. Majority of the volunteers were recruited from local universities and colleges with volunteer opportunities geared towards the applicant's educational area of interest.
This year, IIFA will recruit over 300 volunteers, providing them a unique opportunity to work on the large-scale, action-packed event that involves a mélange of cinema, fashion, culture, business and charitable endeavors. Volunteers must be over 16 years of age, have an interest in Indian Cinema and willing to commit at least a week of their time.
To be a part of the programme, all interested volunteers will first have to apply and then undergo a screening process to assess their suitability and areas of interest. Once selected, the volunteer groups will be split and assigned to 16 different areas across the Weekend's programme, based on their expressed areas of interest. These areas include Travel and Hospitality, Project Management, Artiste Management, Public Relations and Security and Sponsors Management, amongst others. Some volunteers can also choose to adhere themselves to IIFA-specific events such as the IIFA Premiere, the FICCI-IIFA Global Business Forums, IIFA Rocks and the IIFA Awards.
